Core training sessions
Accessible Content to reach more of your People - workshop
Suitable for any business with a website and using digital marketing.
This 90 min online session will guide you through the basics of making your content as accessible to as many people as possible.
Making your website or other online content accessible means making sure it can be used by as many people as possible.
This includes those with:
- impaired vision
- motor difficulties
- cognitive impairments or learning disabilities
- deafness or impaired hearing
At least 1 in 5 people in the UK have a long term illness, impairment or disability. Many more have a temporary disability.
But don’t forget it also includes those currently indisposed due to their surroundings:
- Trying to view any content on a mobile phone screen that is smaller than your hand
- Using a device whilst in a moving vehicle
- Distracted from the task at hand by a noisy office environment
- Watching videos with the sound off so as not to disturb others
Every single person who has ever tried to use a device has experienced one of these!
Accessibility means more than just putting content online. It means making your content and design clear and simple enough so that most people can use it without needing to adapt it, while supporting those who do need to adapt things.
Accessible content usually works better for everyone. It is easier to consume, more scroll-stopping and accessible websites appear higher in search engine rankings.
We’ll cover:
- Making your blog posts and website content well structured and easy to understand, using headings and other tools and accessible to screen-reader software
- Creating accessible video content
- Making your social media posts stand out!
- Passing the blink-test and communicating your message to your whole audience.
Benefits:
- Understand the principles of accessible content for your web pages and social media
- Have some good rules for producing everyday content in an access-friendly format, that any team member can follow in their day to day work.
- Save time by producing accessible and engaging content the first time (it’s easier to start accessible then it is to adapt!)
- Increase productivity – producing accessible and engaging content is quicker than complicated over-designed content.
- Attract more clients – easy to access content engages with more people.
Increase your business’ credibility and respect in the community. Show them you care.
Please note: this is a foundation level course. There is far more to accessibility than I can cover here. I am not able to provide guidance on the technical aspects of building websites.
